A Thirst for Godliness

Thirst for GodlinessThere are many signs in a believer’s life that give evidence to the desire for godliness: A disciplined prayer life, a longing to read God’s Word, quickly confessing sin of which one has been convicted, loving and longing for corporate worship, true concern for the spiritual life of those whom God has placed under your care, a desire to see people saved, involvement in ministries that are outside of your comfort zone and feeling the need to be in fellowship with others for accountability are all fruits of a life striving to be Christ like.

Monday night I saw proof of this in a group of guys. With nothing but a simple invitation 9 men met to begin a small group down in my neck of the woods. Without exception each one shared a desire to be more in God’s Word, a desire to build relationships with other men in Grace Life and to be challenged in their personal walk with God. Being the ‘old man’ in the group my heart was truly blessed to see this desire among a group of younger men; some single, some married and some married with children. I am not sure about all the logistics of this group but I am sure of one thing, God will bless those who seek Him. I can’t wait to see how God is going to work in our lives together and individually.

I share this word for two reasons: One, to encourage you to be a part of a small group and two, don’t be afraid to be the one to initiate. All I did was ask some guys if they were interested and BAM! a small group was planted. I am ashamed that I waited so long to begin. However, I am also thankful it is never to late to start!
