Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily,
and follow Me.

SHARE: Why are true followers of Jesus called to deny themselves? What does denying yourself look like? What are ways you can “increase” Jesus in your life?
PRAY: Ask the Lord to help you remove those self promoting things in your life so that Christ may increase in order for Jesus to be glorified in your life because “it’s not about me.”
Parents – Refer to the “One Conversation” page for further discussion with your children.
READ: Romans 8:26-29
SHARE: Have you ever been in a situation in which you just didn’t know how to pray about it? Is it easier or harder to pray about something when we know exactly what God’s will is? Why? Wouldn’t it be great if we had a prayer partner that always knew clearly what God’s will is for us? The Bible says we have someone like that – He is the Holy Spirit. Read, think and talk about Romans 8:26-27.
PRAY: Thank God for giving you His Holy Spirit and thank the Holy Spirit for faithfully praying for you. Ask the Lord to help you know His will more and more clearly. Ask Him to give you the grace to rest in His promise, that even when you don’t know His will and don’t know how to pray, that His Holy Spirit is praying for you.
Surrendering our lives to Jesus is the beginning point of SALVATION. But the need for us to deny ourselves continues so that more and more we are “Jesus with skin on.” The Apostle Paul put it this way, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
So who do you look like?
