SHARE: God gives us the faith not only for salvation, but He also gives us the faith we need to live in a way that pleases Him. This passage in 1 Peter shows us the importance of fully trusting in God no matter what we are facing in this life. What things are you and your family currently doing to strengthen your faith? Are there things in your life that drain your faith and make it difficult to fully trust God?
PRAY: Pray as the Holy Spirit prompts you, but also know that Jesus is interceding for you according to the will of God, not the will of man. Parents – Refer to the “One Conversation” page for further discussion with your children.
READ: James 4:13-17
SHARE: God wants us to make plans, but He is pleased when our planning is based on prayer, His Word and a desire for Him to receive glory in and through our planning. Sunday we talked about three pitfalls in planning. 1. Plan with God. 2. Presume about tomorrow. 3. Put off what is right. Which of those do you tend to be guilty of most often and what can you do to avoid that pitfall in the future?
PRAY: Ask the Lord to give you the grace to always look to Him in your planning, to remember that we are not promised tomorrow and that now is the time to do that good thing we know we are suppose to do.
We put our faith and trust in God for our salvation – being saved from the penalty of sin. And one day we will be completely set free from the presence of sin when we go to Heaven. However, we must continue to daily put our faith and trust in God as He alone can give us victory over the power of sin, enabling us to live this new life in Christ. (See Romans 6:6-11) How does this faith perspective help you to stay consistent in following Christ?
