We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. -Romans 8:28-29

READ: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
SHARE: What does it mean to you that the grace of God is sufficient for you? The Lord was teaching Paul (and us) that sometimes the Lord has us go through a difficult situation or circumstances so that we will come to the realization that we must be totally dependent upon His strength in our lives. What “thorns” are in your side at the moment (see vs. 7-8) to help teach you to fully rely on God?
PRAY: Pray that, like Paul, you would find contentment with your weakness, insults, hardships and difficult times so that your faith and trust in God might grow stronger.

READ: Matthew 20:25-28, 23:37, John 4:4
SHARE: All three of these passages paint the same picture of Jesus’ heart throb. Can you identify this characteristic? Why did Jesus come to serve? Why did Jesus lament over Jerusalem? Why did Jesus have to go through Samaria? As a believer and follower of Jesus do you demonstrate this same characteristic toward other people in your daily walk? In Matthew 20 Jesus was responding to a request concerning obtaining a special place in the Kingdom (20-24). What is your motive for serving the Lord?
PRAY: Ask God to give you ‘His heart’ toward those to whom you have opportunity to minister. Ask God for the courage to confess the impure motives of your heart and seek His forgiveness. Ask God to grow your love for His church, His kingdom, His purpose.
READ: James 1:2-3
SHARE: When you read this passage, what was the first thing that came to mind? (How in the world? What kind of crazy talk is this? etc.) For someone who is not fully trusting in the Lord, the very idea of finding joy in trials is absurd. In fact, apart from Christ, we can’t find joy in difficult times. Only when we realize that it is through these trials that God is making us more like Christ.
PRAY: Ask the Lord to help you trust Him in difficult times so that you can find the joy that He wants for you. Thank Him for walking with you through these trials and making it possible for you to experience lasting joy.
