Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.

SHARE: This short and simple encounter Jesus had with this woman can have great lessons for your family. Discuss why Jesus praised this woman above the others who also gave, some who even gave generously. What can you learn from this woman’s example? What would need to change for your family to be able to follow her example in your giving to the LORD?
PRAY: Thank God for meeting the needs of your family. Ask God to give you the faith and courage necessary to be a faithful and “abandoned” giver to His kingdom work.
Parents – Refer to the “One Conversation” page for further discussion with your children.

SHARE: When you hear the word “substitute” you might think of a substitute teacher or you might think of a substitute sweetener. We tend to think of a substitute as being inferior to the real thing but when we talk about Jesus being our substitute on the cross there is no sweeter truth. Jesus experienced the pain not only of the physical suffering on the cross but He experienced the pain of being abandoned by His Father. Did He deserve to suffer and to be abandoned? No, because He never sinned but He was substituting Himself in the place of those who had sinned. Reflect on what Jesus went through as He hung on the cross in our place. How should we be responding to that?
PRAY: Ask God to help you make the remaining days before Easter count by remembering Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. Ask Him to help you live in a state of gratitude and to turn from sin when you are tempted. Pray for the opportunity to tell somebody else what Jesus has done on the cross for us.

SHARE: As the Holy Spirit came to live in the hearts of believers, the CHURCH was born. Try to identify the various activities these early believers were committed to carry out. One of these activities was giving to those in need. Jesus knew that we couldn’t make it on our own and that there would be times we would be the ones in need, therefore He established the CHURCH. Faithful giving to Grace Life enables your CHURCH to carry out the work of the Lord, including providing for those in need.
PRAY: Ask God to grow your heart in giving to those in need and to order your finances so that you can become a cheerful giver through your CHURCH.
