Raising Money-Wise Kids

Raising Money-Wise Kids Raising money-wise kids doesn’t have to start as a huge undertaking and you don’t have to have a degree in finance to be successful. Three peanut butter jars may get the ball rolling in the right direction. Training kids to become adults who understand the purpose of and know how to manage…

Say YES to the BEST and NO to the REST!

Dear Grace Life Family, Summer is far from over, but Summer School Break has come to a close. By the time you read this, good or bad, school will be back full swing. For most families the mark of school starting back is also the start of a new family year… schedule wise. Since so…

Gearing Up for 2014!

As you are gearing-up, planning and preparing for a meaningful time with family and friends celebrating the birth of Jesus our Savior, I want to challenge you to take some time over the Christmas holidays to evaluate your family calendar for 2014. The new-year will have no shortage of opportunities to fill your family schedule…

What do you do at Grace Life?

I serve as the Pastor of Family Discipleship, which is a new position on staff at Grace Life. I see my role as the champion of disciple-making for all generations throughout Grace Life. Discipleship is the ongoing process of becoming a reflection of Jesus, image-bearers for God’s glory. I have the privilege of directly guiding and equipping our Parent Partners (Children’s Ministry Leaders for K5-5th Grade), as well as our Adult Discipleship Leaders (Sunday School, Small Groups, & D-Groups).  I lead our Discipleship Staff: Brad (Part-Time Preschool Director), Bryant (Student Pastor), Rick (Sr. Adult Pastor) to ensure all our generation ministries are working toward the end goal of making disciples for Christ. Real discipleship takes place best and first in the context of the home, so I lead our Legacy Journey process of assisting parents, grandparents, and all who influence children to be equipped to intentionally raise godly sons and daughters to be world changers for Christ, boldly living as God’s image-bearers for His glory.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

  • Working alongside pastors who are in love with Jesus and are committed to lead Grace Life to be a church that brings great glory to God… even when its hard.
  • Seeing the light come on in a dad or mom who resolves to lead & disciple his/her family well.
  • Hearing the stories of a dad and/or mom leading their child to trust Christ as LORD.

How long have you served at Grace Life?

Since October 2011… wow time flies when you are having fun!

Where are you from?

I grew up on the eastside of Birmingham, near what used to be the Eastwood Mall and attended Woodlawn High School (Go Colonels!) After College at Samford University, we served the Westwood Baptist Church in Forestdale (northwest side of B’ham); FBC Norcross, GA; Westwood Baptist-Round #2; Valleydale (Baptist) Church (southside of B’ham), and praise the Lord- the southwest side of B’ham at Grace Life!

Who is in your family?

Renee is my incredible wife of 35 years and best friend for much longer (since High School). We have three amazing daughters, Jenny (husband BJ) Stricklin, Amanda (husband Michael) Clonts, and Katie; and five awesome grandkids… four grandsons: Hudson, Greyson, & Sawyer Stricklin, Graham Clonts; and one precious granddaughter: “Princess” Hazel Clonts.

How did you come to a relationship with Jesus?

My salvation is the result of a praying mother, a church full of people who invested in children & youth well, an angel named Andy, friends who modeled true Christianity, a High School environment highly affected by a spiritual revival, and a Savior, Jesus, who wouldn’t give up on me. I surrendered to Christ at age 16.

How did God call you into vocational ministry?

God used friends who wouldn’t allow me to sit on the sidelines and be led, but pushed me to step out and minister to others. He used a youth minister, I only knew for a short time, to help me catch a glimpse of how God might use me in ministry. Through a college prof’s heart of discipleship and personal investment in an unsure and uncertain, yet willing young man, God brought clarity and conviction of His call to serve Him vocationally.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
